i think i’m going to write to him once he’s sentenced, etc — insofar as i’ve gleaned from facebook screencaps, etc, he has a strong literary aptitude and a robust psychic landscape, physical appearance aside i find him maddeningly compelling. once again, it makes me nauseated to think about him growing old in prison. something about this entire case makes me feel uncharacteristically sentimental and defensive.
Lane, 17, admitted taking a pistol and a knife to the 1,100-student Chardon High and firing 10 shots at a group of students sitting at a cafeteria table, prosecutor David Joyce said.
yeah same i feel really bad for this kid instead of for the FIVE PEOPLE HE WOUNDED, THREE OF WHOM ARE FUCKING DEAD, FUCKING IRREVERSIBLY ABSENT FROM LIFE NOW BECAUSE HE KILLED THEM
but sure, okay, let’s all cry over t.j. lane, because he’s smart, and attractive, and compelling, and he had a shitty life with a shitty dad and other shitty things. let’s cry for t.j. lane and not for demetrius hewlin, or russell king jr., or daniel parmertor, all of whom he fucking killed, apparently at random.
look, i understand why you might feel bad for him. he obviously has a lot of problems, and shit, i don’t think life in prison is going to help him, either! i don’t think languishing in prison ever really helps anyone!!! there are probably way better ways to deal with what’s happened, but saying “oh poor kid he’s so great” isn’t one of them. i think it’s pretty sick to just focus on how nice he seems. he murdered three people. three kids. he stole their lives away for absolutely no reason. you can’t just ignore that, and you can’t expect other people—especially not the families, the classmates—to ignore it, either.
i get that the whole situation is fucked up and yeah, okay, it makes you feel like shit, but come on, man, have a little decency. he’s not just some innocent young thing getting reamed by the system. he’s a murderer. it’s sad and it’s a waste, and it could well get worse, but no one made him take that gun to school, or take that knife, either. no one made him shoot at his peers. no one forced him to kill.
that’s on him, and because it is the law, and moreover because it is moral, he has to face consequences. should they be as brutal as his crime? i don’t believe so, but it’s not up to me to decide. i hope he gets the help that he needs. i do. but just because i think he should be cared for and rehabilitated doesn’t mean i think he should be absolved of all sins, and that’s the way you’re coming across, so i just
think you’re wrong
and acting gross
